How to Care for a Stained Glass Suncatcher

Whether you have chosen a piece for yourself or received one as a gift, a little care helps you enjoy the glass. This guide covers small indoor artworks from my collection. For an old installed window or a damaged piece, ask me for advice before cleaning or moving it.

A garland needs support along its length when you take it down or put it away.

Start with gentle dusting

For ordinary surface dust, use a clean, soft, dry cloth and a light touch. If you can take the artwork down safely, support it on a clean, padded surface. Do not press across a gap, bend a joint or pull against its cord while wiping.

Stained glass includes metal joints and may have surface finishes. Do not assume a household window spray, abrasive pad, polish or wax is suitable for every piece. If dusting does not remove a mark, send me a photograph and the product name before trying a stronger treatment. I can advise on the particular artwork rather than give you a universal cleaning recipe.

Handle the glass, not just the hanging cord

Support the artwork itself while moving it. SPARKLE has a satin cord; BLOOM has a glossy cord; UNITY has transparent hanging wire. Those details help you identify your piece, but none means it should be swung or lifted by one small attachment during packing.

For INFINITY or another linked garland, support the separate shapes so they do not knock together. Keep the links relaxed and avoid twisting the arrangement into a bundle.

Putting holiday decorations away

  1. Choose a clean place to work before taking the piece down.
  2. Keep each glass element protected from the next, especially on a garland.
  3. Place the cord so it cannot tangle around corners or pull on a joint.
  4. Use a supportive box and avoid stacking heavy objects on it.
  5. Keep the product name with the piece so you can ask me about it later.

My year-round designs can also stay on display after Christmas. If you move yours to a new window, use the hanging guide to check the new position and support.

When to stop and ask

If you notice a crack, loose eyelet or moving joint, take the piece out of use if you can do so safely. Do not tighten, glue or bend it as a quick fix. Send me an overall photograph and a close-up. I will tell you what can be assessed and what needs a closer look; this is not a promise that every piece can be repaired.

Care questions

Can I clean it like a drinking glass?

No. Treat it as an assembled artwork. Do not soak it or put it in a dishwasher.

What should I tell someone receiving it as a gift?

Share this guide and the product link. Let them choose a suitable display spot before hanging it. You can find gift ideas in my Christmas guide.
