How to Hang a Stained Glass Suncatcher
A stained glass suncatcher deserves more than a convenient empty spot. Before you hang it, check the artwork, the supplied cord or wire, the full drop and the surface that will carry it. This guide is for Claire’s decorative indoor pieces; an architectural panel or unusually heavy artwork needs project-specific advice.

Start with the product, not the hook
Open the product page and note three separate measurements: the glass dimensions, the supplied cord or wire, and the space the finished arrangement needs. A 50 cm (19.69 in) cord is not the same as a 50 cm finished drop. The cord can be adjusted or arranged differently, so measure the real setup before fixing anything.

SPARKLE
Small: 10 × 6 cm (3.94 × 2.36 in). Medium: 14 × 10 cm (5.51 × 3.94 in). Includes a 50 cm satin cord; transparent wire can be requested after ordering.

SUNDROP
15 cm (5.91 in) in diameter. Includes a 50 cm transparent wire. Compare the product photographs and current availability before choosing a version.
A five-step indoor hanging check
- Inspect the artwork and suspension. Check the eyelet, cord or wire before use. Do not hang a piece if anything looks damaged, loose or worn; contact Claire first.
- Choose a stable position. Keep the glass clear of a moving sash, door, blind, curtain hardware and frequent foot traffic. Allow room for the piece to move without striking the window or wall.
- Match the attachment to the surface and load. Follow the attachment manufacturer’s instructions and weight limit. The supplied cord or wire does not determine which hook, rail or fixing is suitable for your window frame, wall or ceiling.
- Make a paper test. Tape a paper outline in the intended position temporarily. Check the proportions from across the room and test the window, curtain and blind in normal use before installing the real artwork.
- Recheck after hanging. Make sure the support remains firm and the artwork hangs freely. Inspect the suspension periodically, especially after cleaning or moving the piece.
Window, wall or ceiling?
In front of a window
Light changes the glass throughout the day, but the brightest position is not automatically the safest one. Keep the artwork away from handles, opening sections and blinds. If you rent, check what fixings are permitted. Do not assume that a suction cup or adhesive hook is suitable merely because it attaches to glass; its load rating, surface preparation and use conditions still matter.
On an indoor wall
A wall gives the colors a steadier background. Check how the glass reads in reflected light and choose a support appropriate for that wall construction. The stained glass wall art guide explains background and scale in more detail.
Suspended from above
A freely hanging piece needs clearance on every side. Consider airflow, ceiling fans, pets and people moving nearby. For a multi-part composition, use the hanging mobiles guide and confirm the full arrangement rather than measuring one glass element.
Questions about hanging stained glass
Can I hang a suncatcher with the cord or wire it arrives with?
Claire’s product descriptions state when a cord or wire is included. That suspension belongs to the artwork, but you still need a suitable support for the particular surface and position. Check both parts before use.
How much space should I allow?
Allow more than the glass width and height. Include the actual hanging drop, clearance from the pane or wall and room for normal movement. Curtains, blinds and opening windows must keep working without touching the glass.
Is this advice for outdoor display?
No. This guide starts with indoor display. For a porch, balcony, garden or another exposed location, ask Claire about the exact artwork and conditions before deciding.
What if I am unsure about the weight or attachment?
Do not guess. Send Claire the product link, a photograph of the proposed spot, the relevant dimensions and the attachment you are considering. For the support or building surface, follow the manufacturer’s instructions or obtain appropriate local advice.
