How to Choose a Stained Glass Garland
A stained glass garland creates a sequence of shapes instead of a single ornament. Choosing one for a window starts with two questions: what does the listed length measure, and how much clear space do you actually have?
This guide compares Claire’s INFINITY and BALANCE designs and helps you plan a vertical display. Claire makes her work in the Netherlands; US shoppers can check delivery options for their own address.
Compare the composition as well as the length
INFINITY: flowing shapes

INFINITY’s glass composition measures 19.69 inches (50 cm) from the top glass piece to the bottom glass piece. It comes with a separate 50 cm satin cord; transparent wire is available on request. The product describes the Tiffany technique and offers four named palettes.
BALANCE: two leaf shapes

BALANCE uses two matching leaf-shaped ornaments in a vertical arrangement. Its product description lists a total length of 33.5 inches (85 cm). This is a different measurement description from INFINITY’s glass-only length; ask Claire to clarify any additional fixing clearance.
Why 50 cm and 85 cm are not a simple size comparison
One listing measures from the first glass element to the last; the other states total length. Comparing the numbers alone can give the wrong impression of how they will fit. For INFINITY, adding the full cord length to the glass length does not necessarily give the final installed drop, because the hanging arrangement matters.
Before ordering, establish the distance from your intended support point to the lowest point of the finished display. If that distance is not clear from the listing, send Claire a photograph and your available height. Also ask for the maximum width if the space is narrow.
Measure the usable space in four steps
- Choose the support position. Identify where the piece could be securely supported; check permitted fixings if you rent.
- Measure the clear drop. Measure toward the sill or object below, leaving suitable clearance for the intended arrangement.
- Check width and movement. Open the window and move curtains and blinds through their normal range. A long piece needs clearance along its whole length.
- Compare a paper layout. Mark the approximate glass area with paper before committing to a design. Keep the support and cord separate from the glass outline.
The general window art guide compares garlands with compact ornaments and tiles if the measured space suggests a different format.
Choose one palette or a repeated arrangement
INFINITY lists Mediterranea, Lime And Citrus, Azure Blue and Peach Purple. Start with a photographed palette that works with an existing room detail. BALANCE has separate photographed listings within the garland collection; check the exact one you intend to order.
For two or more garlands in one window, measure each position separately and discuss matching colors and quantity with Claire. Handmade variation means a group should not be assumed to be identical. Do not use one product’s availability as a promise for the full group.
When to discuss a custom length
INFINITY’s product description offers custom sizing by inquiry. Send the available width and drop, a photograph, preferred palette, budget and US ZIP code through the custom commission page. Ask Claire to confirm how changing the size affects the composition, support and price before ordering.
For an existing design, use its product page for current ordering status. Shipping charges and arrangements depend on the destination and piece; read the US ordering guide.
Questions about glass garlands
Can I hang a vertical garland horizontally?
Do not assume that a vertical composition supports another orientation. These examples are described as vertical arrangements. Ask Claire before changing the display method.
Is the listed cord also the mounting hardware?
The cord is one part of the hanging arrangement. It does not identify a suitable hook, surface or fixing for your home. Confirm those separately.
Can a garland hang outside?
Ask about the exact piece and exposure first. These examples help plan an interior display and do not establish outdoor suitability.
Is a garland a good surprise gift?
It helps to know the recipient’s available space. If you cannot confirm the height, use the housewarming gift guide to compare a garland with a compact ornament.
